What is Iyengar Yoga ?
Iyengar Yoga is a form of Yoga practiced world wide. Yoga has been practiced in India for centuries. It is comprised of various poses called Asanas. Yoga can be practiced by people of all ages. Iyengar Yoga was founded by an Indian, Living Legend, Guruji Shri B.K.S. Iyengar. He was born in 1918. He became Yoga Instructor in India in 1936.
Iyengar Yoga is based on Patanjali’s Hatha (Ashtanga) Yoga. Iyengar style of Yoga gives more emphasis for body and mind alignment. Performing of asanas with perfection to body and mind alignment. Practicing of yoga will help the users to realize and achieve goal of harmonious balance of their mind and their physical bodies.
Iyengar Yoga uses props like, blanket, pillows, bricks, bench, ropes etc. to do asanas by people who can not ordinarily perform such asanas. Thereby the real benefits of asanas will be attained by people of all ages. The use of props is an innovation by Guruji Shri B.K.S. Iyengar. It allows more users to participate in Yoga by using these props as assistive tools.
